Kamaram Collective — the band's singers and instrumentalists against a red sun, coconut palms and backwaters of Kerala
Folk music of Kerala, carried forward. Collected. Preserved. Performed anew.

Who we are

Kamaram Collective collects, preserves and performs the folk songs and indigenous art forms of Kerala, and passes their history and heritage on to the next generation.

Every song we sing has a place, a people and a purpose behind it — songs of the paddy field, the boat, the harvest, the ritual and the home. We gather them from the communities who still hold them, document their stories, and bring them to the stage so they keep being heard.

Alongside the traditional repertoire, the collective writes and records original work, adding a contemporary chapter to a very old book.

The artists

Singers and instrumentalists with deep roots in folk music, playback singing and film music.

The collective includes recipients of the Kerala Folklore Academy Award, alongside artists who have spent years in Kerala’s film and playback singing industry. Some grew up with these songs in their families; others came to them through study and fieldwork. What they share is a commitment to performing this music with both respect and energy.

Why we do it

This journey means more when it is shared — with loved ones, with fellow artists, and with everyone who hears these songs for the first time.

Our aim is to revive, enrich and celebrate Kerala’s folk songs through new musical expression, and to carry their beauty and spirit to new audiences and future generations.
